Note to self:
In the future, when I am designing my loft/home for my family, I will make sure to put together a communal office & study space. I find that too much of our time spent at home is us being locked away in our rooms and away from our family. Time that could be spent in the company of others. Recently, when I come home from work my dad is watching television in my parents’ room, my brother on his desk in his room, and I end up alone with the dogs in my room.
Segregated, alone, recluse.
Like in a sorority house or a café, I find solace and productivity when I’m around other people who are also working. I want a room in my house where all the printers, desktops, reference materials, and office supplies will be so that any member of the family could find a quiet place to work and study - hopefully in the company of each other.
There will be no televisions or desks in the bedrooms (it’s bad for Feng Shui anyways). Instead, there will be a communal television room where all the movies and game consoles will live. Everything else will go in the office room. In this office there will be tables, cabinets, and shelves lined along three walls with internal desk laps installed. There will also be a large, round wooden table in the middle and four or five comfy desk chairs..
Just a thought.
